What is an Abortion?

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus. The unmodified word abortion generally refers to induced abortion or deliberate actions to end a pregnancy.

In ancient times and various civilizations herbs and vaginal suppositories were used.

In the 19th Century (1800s), surgical tools emerged and procedures by untrained persons.

In the 20th Century medical abortion had been introduced.

Margaret Sanger is regarded as a founder and leader of the birth control movement. Sanger was a first-wave feminist and believed that women should be able to decide if and when to have children, leading her to campaign for the legalization of contraceptives.
